    Q. What's with the name?

    A. Every broken system has a reason. When asked, the answer is usually "(insert reason here) Broke it". We've heard just about every possible reason from mother nature to the family pet. Since it was so common it seemed fitting that it be part of the name. The name officially came about after the major blackout of 2003 that affected the northeast. Chris was driving through New York at the time and someone said "You broke it!".

    Q. Are you really open 24 hours a day?

    A. Yes.

    Q. How come your rates are so low?

    A. Because we can. We aren't paying for cute themed cars or a warehouse full of idle parts so the overhead is pretty much nonexistent.

    Q. How come my bill was less than I expected?

    A. For in shop repairs we only charge for time where a tech is physically working on your computer problem. We don't charge for idle time where an automated process like a virus scanner or software update download is running. If the tech is on site you will be billed for the entire time that tech is there regardless of idle time.

    Q. I've seen you before but I thought you were with _______?

    A. We were probably helping another company with a large project where they were short on local resources. We also have relationships with over four-thousand companies and individuals where we provide local service to their customers.

    Q. Someone has recently left our company and they locked us out of important data. Can you help?

    A. Yes. We get this type of request more often than you would believe. We've got you covered from forgotten and lost passwords all the way up to data which has been held "hostage" by former employees. We have even assisted in getting back data from servers which were trashed by former network admins, and recovering evidence which was used to show a timeline and prove that trade secrets were sold to a competitor.

    Q. Someone is breaking into my wireless network. Can you help?

    A. Yes we can. Depending on what you request we can be as simple as locking them out all the way up to locating the individual doing the breaking in.

    Q. Can you help me hack into my neighbors wireless network?

    A. No. We are capable of it, but we won't do it. We will however note the request should your neighbor call us about someone trying to break into their wireless network.

    Q. My computer was infected with a virus or spyware. Why did your technician require it to be fixed in the shop rather than in my home/office?

    A. Short answer: Because it is more reliable and less expensive for you this way. Long answer: We have a time tested and proven method of removing system infections which uses dedicated hardware and special configurations which are only available in our shop. The problem with the latest infections is that they are difficult to clean and repair because they usually are paired with one or more control programs which monitor if the infection is still present. If the control program is not found and removed the infection will show up almost immediately. Our system removes the infection and it monitors for control programs attempting to access the internet to re-infect the machine. All cleaned machines also go through an update process where the operating system, and virus scanner(if present) are updated to protect against the latest threats. The system is then further protected by the installation of an anti-spyware application which is also updated.. To compare this to the medical field: Our in shop method doesn't just treat the symptoms of an infection it cures the disease.

    Q. What equipment do you use? Is it something like NASA?

    A. For the most part we use the same off the shelf equipment that you would see in any home or office. All of our servers are from IBM and they are all running Debian Sarge. All of the technician laptops are also from IBM and they all run a dual-boot of Windows and Debian. Systems for specialized tasks like data recovery, network audits, or security are usually custom built from retail parts and they run specialized versions of Unix or Linux based on the task.
